So we have said goodbye to one of our brother creatures on this benighted earth. The poor freshwater dolphin which used to live on the Yangtze river in China. Notable because it wasn't hunted or persecuted into extinction - it was just overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of human beings in its habitat.
And that is what will happen to many more harmless creatures living their harmless lives if we go on breeding like, well bacteria actually. If we were judging ourselves with an impartial eye we would see that we are a plague on the face of the earth.
Quite ironic that Douglas Adams should have put the phrase "Goodbye and thanks for all the fish!" into the mouths of the dolphins before they disappeared from the earth - their presience letting them see that the end of the world was at hand. Can we take a hint?

I wholeheartedly agree - we humans deserve extinction, merely so that the earth can enjoy a period of recovery from our epoch before getting on with something much more worthwhile. Bacterial is a good word to describe the human race, polluting every we touch and killing for fun or pride... Oxygen is a waste product in most of the universe, one that we have exploited as all good diseases do.
Roll on armageddon, the day after tomorrow or some other great disaster!
